What is this handbasket we’re in, and where is it going?

Samedi is pleased

Leave it to the French to come up with new ways to voice their displeasure in their elected officials.  A publishing company has developed a doll in the likeness of President Sarkozy.  These dolls are distributed with voodoo manuals – I assume the pins are not included.  These voodoo manuals instruct the would-be loa worshipers on proper pin placement.

Ok, so creating voodoo dolls isn’t exactly a new way to critique an elected official – I’ve seen Dick Cheney and Dubya action figures that could probably be commandeered for voodoo purposes.  It is also a gross misinterpretation of voodoo.  But damn it, it’s fun.

Instead of taking this in stride, however, Sarkozy has for some reason taken offense at the practice and is threatening to sue the publisher for encroaching upon his “exclusive and absolute rights over his own image.”  Talk about a buzz-killing, trophy-wife-hunting, Samedi-fearing French premier.
